I don't know how I've missed this one but what good fortune to have it pop up as a random story this Christmas season. I loved it. I love your whole universe, as you know, and this one was just perfect. And I plan to try that hot chocolate drink soonest!

Ahhh. And this makes the third delicious foothills holiday story I've had the good fortune of reading this holiday season.

I love the way this recalls the others. I really love this whole universe so very much.

And truly, your skill is amazing. I'm often turned off by the more sentimental stories. Maybe the adding of the schmaltz makes it easier to mangle the characters, or maybe I'm just bitter... but anyway, your whole foothills series is so remarkably warm and sweet and comforting and yet it's not overdone. It never falls into the horrible unrealistic-fairy-tale nonsense that too many stories do when they aim for that kind of warmth.

These are like that amazing hot-chocolate concoction, sweet and creamy and wonderful but with just the right amount of steam and alcohol that it can't possibly be mistaken for kids' stuff.

Thanks so much, Charlie, for another lovely little gem for me to find in the final moments of 2011.

OMG, I am SO laughing now! I used to tell people that joke about the angel on the Christmas tree, only after awhile, I forgot how it went. Twenty years later, and you bring the punch line back to me in such a lovely way--thank you!
